On April 14, 2025 we entered the ICW at 6:50 AM just before the Wrightsville Beach Bridge. We called the Wrightsville Beach Bridge tender on Channel 13 and he actually opened the bridge a few minutes early for us as we were the only boat in either direction. We cleared the Wrightsville Beach Bridge at 7 AM which helped us in our journey north as we needed to get to the figure 8 bridge for the 730 opening. Wonderfully polite and knowledgeable bridge tender. We always make a point of saying good morning and being super polite and respectful when calling.

Bridge comment on Figure Eight Island Swing Bridge

On April 14, 2025 we headed from the Wrightsville Beach Bridge to the Figure 8 swing bridge. Our trawler likes to go at 1500 RPMs and about 7.7 kn cruising speed ; fortunately we were cruising at 8.8 kn in the Masonboro Inlet, as we headed to the Figure 8 Bridge, The tides and wind were with us! Again we called the Figure 8 Bridge tender and were advised that he would open at 7:30 AM. We cleared the Figure 8 Bridge at 7:35 AM. A polite, respectful and knowledgeable Bridge tender! It is important to note that we always greet them with a good morning and a respectful tone when requesting their next bridge opening/schedule.

Bridge comment on Onslow Beach Swing Bridge

On April 14, 2025, we were cruising north on the ICW. We reviewed the Bridge schedule and the WaterwayGuide reviews of the Bridge schedules. Due to the comments about the Onslow Bridge, I called the Onslow Bridge tender on the phone at 9:10 that morning and after greeting him, I politely requested his opening schedule. The very nice and polite bridge tender confirmed that he opens on the hour and half hour. We were aiming for the 12 PM opening. At 11:54 we hailed the Onslow Bridge on the radio and he saw us! He told us that he would get us through at the 12 PM opening at 12:07. We cleared the Onslow Bridge. I went to the bow to wave to the bridge tender and thank him in person. I told him "thank you! have a great day!" He responded by laughing and smiling and said "you have a great day as well, safe journey!" I am not quite sure of the reason behind the negative comments on the WaterwayGuide. Our experiences every time have been nothing but positive.
