Bitter Guana Cay South

  • Lat / Lon: N 24° 07.700' / W 076° 24.856'
  • Depth: 9'-12'
  • Tide: 2.5'-3.0'
  • Description:

The south anchorage is more exposed than the north anchorage, but it is every bit as dramatic. On the south end of the cay, the limestone cliffs give way to broad expanses of protected beach on Gaulin Cay to the south that provide a good launching point for wind surfers. In prevailing conditions this anchorage is livelier than the north anchorage but unless the winds exceed 20 knots most boats will not find the motion objectionable. The trick to using this anchorage is to anchor to the north of the beach at Gaulin Cay. If one wishes to anchor off the beach, be very careful to avoid the substantial bands of grass in the area because they offer very poor holding.

DISCLAIMER: Before committing to an anchorage, you should confirm that the location is not governed by a regulation that may conflict with your plans. An increasing number of states and municipalities are enacting laws that define where and how long you may anchor.
