Fort Montague Bay

  • Lat / Lon: N 25° 04.290' / W 077° 17.856'
  • Depth: 8'-12'
  • Tide: 2.0'-2.5'
  • Description:

Fort Montague Bay is technically outside of Nassau Harbour but it remains protected from the north by Paradise Island. There is protection from the southwest to north and the holding is very good. In settled conditions the anchorage is usable in all wind directions but easterly winds over 15 knots will cause the anchorage to become choppy especially on a rising tide when the tidal current from the harbor meets the wind. There is more water than is shown on the charts.  The anchorage is quieter and the wakes from passing boats are not as strong when compared to the anchorages inside the harbor. It is possible to go ashore at the Royal Nassau Sailing Club, which is the dock system protected by a stone breakwater to the south along the western shore of the anchorage, or in the man made swim areas along the shore.

DISCLAIMER: Before committing to an anchorage, you should confirm that the location is not governed by a regulation that may conflict with your plans. An increasing number of states and municipalities are enacting laws that define where and how long you may anchor.
