Little Bay - Great Guana Cay

  • Location: Southern Exumas
  • Lat / Lon: N 24° 04.764' / W 076° 23.190'
  • Depth: 7'-12'
  • Tide: 2.5'-3.0'
  • Description:

Little Bay is a shallow indentation on the west side of Great Guana Cay south of Black Point settlement. More than half of the shoreline of the bay is private, but there are patches of beach on the south end where it is possible to beach a dinghy. From the anchorage it is possible to walk into Black Point Settlement about 1.5 miles away by road.

In prevailing easterly winds the anchorage is a viable alternative to the main Black Point anchorage with similar holding and wind protection, however when the wind shifts into the north there will be a noticeable difference in the protection afforded by the peninsula upon which the settlement is built. If the winds shift into the west, however, then all bets are off and one is better off to seek shelter elsewhere, even if it means moving the boat in less than ideal conditions.

DISCLAIMER: Before committing to an anchorage, you should confirm that the location is not governed by a regulation that may conflict with your plans. An increasing number of states and municipalities are enacting laws that define where and how long you may anchor.
