- Description:
The anchorage at James Cistern is basically an open roadstead that offers very little protection from any direction. Anchoring here overnight is possible in only calm conditions as there is an incessant swell regardless of wind direction. Evidence of how exposed the area is can be found on the storm battered remains of the public dock. The anchorage is best treated as a lunch stop or for pet relief. There is a variety store and several small restaurants ashore but there is no place to buy fuel.
DISCLAIMER: Before committing to an anchorage, you should confirm that the location is not governed by a regulation that may conflict with your plans. An increasing number of states and municipalities are enacting laws that define where and how long you may anchor.
